The The Delaware River Club is under new ownership. Please visit their new website for current information. The Delaware River Club rests on the banks of the West Branch and offers two miles of private-access water teeming with wild brown trout. The Club requires no membership and provides lodging, fly fishing schools, and guide services on the Upper Delaware system, including the Beaverkill River.

Dec. 6, 2007 Frank Theobold's "The Fly Fishing Shop is now "Franks Fly Fishing Shoppe" - A long time friend of the Main Line Fly-Tyers, Frank Theobold has retired and closed up his fly tying busi-ness which he ran out of the basement of his home in Glenside for many years. Frank was a cornerstone for many club members who frequented his shop in search of tying tools and materials. He was very good to our club, donating many raffle prizes over the years. Frank not only supplied us with goods, but also shared his wisdom with us. For many of us when just starting out Frank taught us how to use that “tricky” whip finishing tool. He also demonstrated some of his favorite fly patterns and tying techniques. We thank him for his many years of kindness and generosity to the club and wish him the very best. While Frank has retired, his shop lives on ! One of his long time patrons George Orlowitz has purchased the inventory and has set up the business which he will run out of his law office in Elkins Park. In honor of Frank, he will continue to operate the new venture under the name “Frank’s Fly Fishing Shoppe”. For now, George says he’ll be operating very similarly to the way Frank ran the business. Patrons can call ahead and George will meet them at his office which is only a couple minutes from his home. His office is located 7906 High School Road (second floor around the back) in Elkins Park. George can be contacted at the following numbers 267-475-6055 or 215-635-0500 (law office number). The email address is ffshoppe@comcast.net. George has informed me that he will be offering a 10% discount to all Main Line Fly-Tyers club members. He hopes to join us at our June meeting this Thursday and says he looks forward to doing business with us.

Jan. 06, 2008 The January meeting is back to the regular 3rd Thursday of the month - Jan. 17th. Come out and enjoy Ozzie Ozefovich's presentation on Fishing for Atlantic Salmon. Born in eastern Pennsylvania, Ozzie grew up fishing the streams of the coal mining region. His passion for trout and their world began at age six, when a brook trout fell prey to a garden worm. That passion continues unabated for the salmon and trout he now pursues with fly rod and camera. Ozzie is well known for his series of videos "The Underwater World of Trout".

We ask you to bring at least one item and donate the entire auction price to the club. You can also bring other items for the auction. The club takes a 10% commission. Dec. 6, 2007 There will be a special auction item. Sam Vigorita and Mike Ebner have collaborated to produce a special edition Fly Pattern book. There will be one copy available to the highest bidder.  The book contains the recipes and tying instructions for 24 patterns of flys, hints for fishing them and two articles to increase your fishing skills. These are the patterns that Sam has developed and honed fishing the Upper D. for the last 30 years.  Follow the step by step instructions and your fly box will be filled with flys to provide you an edge to catch more fish than using the traditional and standard fly patterns. Aug. 27, 2006 Listen to the battle over fishing rights on the Little J. (article prepared June 21, 2006)
Fishing is one of summer's pleasures. And the Little Juniata River is one of the state's finest trout streams. But who gets to wade in the water? That was the topic of a courtroom battle last week. A judge will decide whether a 1.3-mile stretch belongs to a private fishing club or to the people of Pennsylvania.

This story, by outdoors writer Deborah Weisberg, was a production of “The Allegheny Front,” broadcast on NPR member station WYEP in Pittsburgh.

Apr. 11, 2006 Paraleptophlebia adoptiva (Blue Dun, Blue Quill, Iron Blue Dun, Slate-Winged Mahogany Dun). We saw a few of these last weekend at Resica Falls. I didn't have any in my box, so I thought - better tye some up for opening day. This little mayfly appears mid April to early May. It's a size 18 to size 16. Last year I began tying most of my drys with quill bodies. I looked around for a suitable quill, then on my tying table I saw some grouse tail scraps. Hmmm, the tips were a nice chocolate brown and they inspired me to try  them for the Blue Quills body. Here's my receipe: Hook: Mustad 94840,  thread: brown, tail: medium Blue Dun, body: grouse tail tip (2 fibers twisted), wings: medium dun hen, hackle: medium dun < and some pictures >
